The compressed gas lift cylinder on this vehicles hood failed just as firefighters arrived. A three inch section of the cylinder pierced the hood and landed about ten feet in front of the car (yellow circle). The cylinders inner bolt, measuring 8 inches long and 1/8 inch in diameter, was also found several feet from the vehicle. These gas cylinders are found on vehicle hoods, trucks and rear lift doors. Always approach vehicles from the front or rear corners to avoid shrapnel from gas cylinder failures.
